Ron graduated at the head of his class, with a 98% average, from the Victoria Conservatory’s nationally acclaimed teacher training program and was subsequently awarded a position on the conservatory piano faculty. |
| 1987 |
Ron’s first big success came when his student Paul Bergbusch from Colwood – then 16 years of age was awarded the gold medal on completion of his ARCT with a mark of 95%. Paul went on to win the Victoria Civic Orchestra concerto competition with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 which he performed in the University Center auditorium. |
| 1993 |
Ron was invited to join the faculty of the Malaspina University College School of Music in Nanaimo. During his time at Malaspina Ron created a two year keyboard proficiency course which became an obligatory course for all non-piano majors. On completion of this course many of these students managed to achieve skill levels equivalent to RCM grade six to nine. Additionally, Ron was responsible for preparing advanced piano students for acceptance into university performance programs across Canada. |
| 1999 |
Upon recommendation of their regular teachers, Ron assisted a number of Cowichan Valley piano students in preparing for their successful University auditions. |
| 2000 |
Ron was invited to Costa Rica as a private piano teacher for 15 year old Erica Maloney who at the time was discouraged with her progress and ready to give up her piano studies. After working with Erica for three months she made the shortlist of Orquesta Sinfónica National de Costa Rica’s concerto competition. Erica subsequently went on to win her division of an international piano competition in Texas – which lead to a New York recital and a recording at age 17. |

Since Returning from Costa Rica Ron has been teaching privately in the Cowichan Valley one of his students, Kyle Long, managed to progress from beginner to diploma standard in less than five years. Kyle’s piano playing was recently featured in January Players production of “Nunsense”. Kyle’s skills were an invaluable asset to Cowichan Senior Secondary School’s music program under the direction of Devon Bailey
Presently Ron is working with Taylor Winfrey who was admitted to the University of Victory as a piano major for the fall of 2006. However, Taylor opted to take an additional year of instruction with Ron before beginning her University Career in 2007. While she was a student at Francis Kelsey High Schol she made a significant contribution to the school’s music program as an accompanist, rehearsal pianist and soloist in the school concerts. Taylor plans to complete her ARCT in June of 2007. |
