Some highlights from the past

2000

Ron and Toronto soprano Elizabeth Lutz presented a vocal recital featuring songs by Mozart, Richard Strauss ( The Four Last Songs ), Debussy, Kurt Weil and others in a number of Vancouver Island and mainland venues.

1997

Long time University of Victoria Orchestra and Chorus Director Dr. George Corwin invited Ron to participate in his retirement concert which featured Oliver Messiaen’s “Oiseaux Exotiques” for solo piano and orchestra.

1996 MMUS graduation features Chopin Sonata in B flat Minor OP. 35, Samuel Barber’s Sonata in E flat Minor, OP. 26, Beethoven’s Sonata in A flat, OP.110 and “Le Baiser de l’Enfant Jesu”- No. 15 of Oliver Messiaen’s Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant Jesu.
1992

A trio comprised of UVIC faculty members Lanny Pollet, flute, Christoph Both, cello, and Ron Kilian, piano was chosen to represent British Columbia at an international music festival in Montreal. One of the featured works performed was George Crumb’s Vox Ballane.

1992     Johannesen International Festival of the Arts: An ensemble comprised of Ron Kilian and Cary Chow, pianos, Bill Linwood and Dale Bassett-Price, percussion, performed George Crumb’s Makrokosmos Vol.3: “Music for a Summer Evening.” This highly evocative work on a “cosmic” scale is scored for two amplified grand pianos and an incredible array of percussion instruments. The CBC recorded the concert for later rebroadcast.
1990   

Ron was featured in a concert of contemporary music presented by the Victoria Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Aitken. The concert featured works by Gillies Trembaly, Toru Takemitsu, and Pierre Boulez.

1989 

BMUS graduation recital features Franz Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor, OP. 42., and Maurice Ravel’s “Gaspard de la Nuit.”

1987  

Victoria Symphony Spectrum Series presented a concert featuring Bela Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion performed by Rena Sharon and Ron Kilian, pianos, with Bill Linwood and Dale Bassett-Price, percussion.
